Chaos at Howe Community Park Injures Four People Injured in Sacramento County's Arden-Arcade Neighborhood

Law enforcement in Sacramento are looking into a violent incident that occurred on April 18 2026 at Howe Community Park in the Arden-Arcade area as deputies were shutting down an unauthorized event of multiple hundreds of people.

How It Started

Sacramento County Sheriff's deputies were first called to Howe Community Park at about 6:30 in the evening after learning of persons possibly in possession of concealed weapons. Following that, a second call came in regarding a reported physical confrontation occurring within the park grounds.

A sheriff's airship scanned the area from the air but was unable to locate the reported altercation. Even so, it became clear that a crowd of several hundred had congregated at Howe Park without authorization.

The Shooting Itself

Sacramento County Sheriff's deputies set about removing people from the park by surrounding the park and making announcements ordering the hundreds present to clear out. Nearly 15 minutes were provided for people to comply.

It was during this dispersal that upwards of 20 gunshots cut through the air. The rapid succession of shots sent the crowd running in all directions. Officers at once began identifying shooting victims.

Those Who Were Hit

By the time the Howe Community Park shooting 2026 scene was secured, four people were found to have been shot. The victims — including a female and three males all believed to be in their mid to late twenties — were airlifted or driven to area medical facilities. Medical teams confirmed that two victims sustained immediate injuries, one had moderate injuries, and one person's injuries were considered minor. As of last report, all four were in stable condition.

The Sacramento Metropolitan Fire Department arrived on scene and assisted with medical triage those with gunshot wounds at the park.

Physical Evidence

The main crime scene was confirmed to have taken place on the Cottage Way side of the park near the Home Depot located at the 2200 block of Howe Ave. Detectives identified extra shell casings scattered along Cottage Way. Ballistic damage were observed in the wrought iron fence near the Home Depot store. These discoveries suggested that at least one shooter had been discharging rounds toward the south from along Cottage Way in the direction of the Home Depot store. The store itself was put under lockdown for a period of time. Crime scene technicians and detectives worked tirelessly throughout the night.
